Re: Anyone used PSS Removals to Oz?
The reefer is a 20 foot container that holds 850 cubic feet whereas a standard 20 foot container holds 1050 cubic feet. Our estimated volume of goods was in the region of 700-750 cubic feet so going for a reefer has saved us approx £300 on the price of a normal 20 footer. The other option was of course to share a container but we were happier to have one to ourselves!
Because these containers are used to tranport food products there is the concern that any smells may linger and "perfume" your belongings but each container has to be thoroughly cleaned (and defumigated!) between jobs and we are not shipping any soft furnishings so were happy to go with a reefer.

We have PSS coming on Monday to pack us up and ship a 20ft container to Perth. We had the assessor come out to us in January and have since sold and moved into a rental, the price has gone up since January which is fair enough because of increases, the insurance has gone up to 2.8% instead of 2.5% but the excess seems reasonable, £50 per claim. My only concern is that they have informed us that if the container has to be reversed in or out of the limited parking bay outside of our rental (no drive) then there will have to be an extra charge for the guys walking it to where the container is parked. I am not too sure how this is going to work out.
Wish us luck. They have said that the container will be put on the boat on the 12th July and arrive Freemantle 11th August.
Cheers

We had a reefer too and we were told that they were all refridgerated (hence the word REEFER, the Aussies do this to most of there words) but obviously the refrigeration is switched off on return.

Thanks everyone for your comments.Got a few questions I'm going to clear with Pss and if happy probably stick with them.
Have very limited access at this house (rental) it is one of those private drive jobbies with 4 other houses that builders love to build with only 1 visitors space provided apart from everyones double drives.Any way you look at it they are going to block access for the majority of the time they are here.
Using Letton Percivals for insurance as they are only 1.53% against 2.8% for Pss although their excess is £100 and Pss is only £50 but seeing as we would be saving £100s this is ok.Some one has already posted a link to them on this thread and we spoke to a chap called Brian.
Pss reckon they are going to take 2 days to complete this (Pickfords said 3) for a 4 bed house - when we sold in March we went from a 5 bed to a 4 bed rental. We are then going to a local B&B for 4 nights before we fly.Just wanted to make sure everything was sorted & packed before we left and to leave plenty of time to clean the rental house to get our deposit back.
Will let you know how we get on.
