Anyone shipped a moses basket to Oz?
Hi. We're about to send our stuff to Oz and the shipping companies we've had round (John Masons and Pickfords) have both said the moses basket might be a problem as wicker.
They have said it may get through without a problem but as wicker it will be flagged up for inspection and we could be charged for additional inspection costs and if anything was found then have to pay for it to be destroyed. We had planned to take it as our plan is to try for another baby and similar baskets are almost double the price in Oz compared to the UK, however, it we do get stung with inspection charges it might not be worth sending it. The shippers have said it is our call.
Has anyone sent one recently and if yes, was it inspected and what did they charge for this?
We can't decide whether to send it or not, so any info would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Rav.

Sorry, cant tell you about shipping, as we did not bring one. But, I can tell you that I looked for a Moses basket over here till my eyes bled, and could not find one, in shops or on the internet. We bought a standard (covered in fabric) bassinet in the end.
We ended up buying most of our stuff from the place below, just a brilliant idea, and saved a bundle.

They probably won't let wicker in. And then they might charge you to destroy it!
7 years ago I brought an old teddy bear stuffed with straw (I didn't actually know it was straw inside) and they charged me $100 to have it irradiated, plus an extra trip to the shipping warehouse to get it released. So even if they let it in it might be quite costly.
And there are lots for sale here, eg http://www.mothercare.com.au/c-690-b...s-baskets.aspx

I brought one and had no problem. Wasn't even looked at. It just comes down to luck. If you want it bring it. Just have some money set aside if they check your shipping. We brought garden stuff and camping stuff and they didn't even check that.
