Anyone out there with no kids?
Hubby and i would like to hear about anyones experience as a couple with no kids.
Where is a good place to live with good entertainment and restaurants.
Did you rent an apartment or house.
City/suburb
Whats the rent like.
Is it easy to meet other people.
All your experience good and bad would be appreciated as there is so much info on families and schooling but not so many couples etc.

My partner and I are moving over to Perth early next year (whether the house sells or not... it's driving us crazy this house selling lark!!) and we don't have children!! Not ready for that yet!!
We moving north of the river but will still be visiting the south for the nightlife and bars in Fremantle, to the city and visiting the gorgeous restaurants in Northbridge!!
Although we're not there yet, we've had no probs making friends over there on our many visits to Perth. We don't plan to move very close to the city as we can't afford it and we like the peace and quiet of the northern suberbs as we recover from the night before!!

Less hassle without kids, i would imagine!, at least you can go somewhere and if you dont like it its not so hard to move yourselves elsewhere if need be.
We have some friends in Melboune and went down to visit them last month, nice place, very cosmopolitan, even european like in a way.
Was our second choice, but we went with the weather instead and Brisvegas aint that bad!!

We're off to Brisbane assuming the meds are fine this week.
Australia is very family friendly but hopefully we'll be able to find plenty of adult only bars & clubs in Brisbane - we don't have kids & don't want to be bothered by others people's kids :scared:
We're moving for the weather & lifestyle

(used to work in Harrogate)
we are leaving the kids here when we move! so in effect we are on our own. It does seem that everybody moving has a young family. We are mid 40's and doing it the other way round!
Simon used to live in Sydney and we are thinking of living there for a couple of years and then maybe buying something on or around the gold coast or Brisbane area.... might change our mind later though

If Melbourne is the front runner and you want the whole cosmopolitan lifestyle, stay reasonably close to the city.
St Kilda has great beach, cafes, restaurants, outdoor eating, bars etc.
Fitzroy, ditto (no beach) but better parks and is on the edge of the CBD
Both of these either a house or apartment is an option
Docklands is a newer development so more of an apartment complex, however has bars, restaurants etc.
This is just off the top of my head, there are loads more places depending on what you want and if I think about it I can go into more detail if you want - lived in Melbourne for 28 years!! Love the place going back as soon as possible!

Hello
Attached is a link to a report by the City of Melbourne (it covers most of the very inner city) It is hugely long (110 pages) however if you have a brief look at something like www.realestate.com.au you will get a quick view of the suburb and its homes, so you don't need to read everything. http://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/rsrc...emo_Sept05.pdf
It is from August 2005, so should be pretty up to date. It gives you numbers of cafes, night clubs etc, so should give you a good indication of what to expect. It is a bit wordy (government document).
I lived in (as an independent adult) Fitzroy and St Kilda for some years. These both offered the lifestyle I was after, the cafes, restaurants, both at the bottom and top end of the price range. To be honest as a middle 20s couple we hardly ever ate at home. In this regard Fitzroy offers more at the bottom of the price range in just about every conceivable style. There is a fabulous Nepalese restaurant on Smith street which bizarrely has a calamari curry as a chefs special. Fizroy also has some beautiful gardens. To make you feel more at home the exhibition gardens are layed out in a Union Jack pattern!!
St Kilda is just fabulous in the summer because of the beach, however it has the obvious drawback in the summer of the beach. Double edged sword. Again, Ackland Street and Fitzroy St (FYI these suburbs are no where near each other) have fabulous cages and restaurants.
Both are very close to the city. Fitzroy is walking distance and right on the edge, St Kilda is a 10 minute tram ride. If you like this kind of area, there is also Port Melbourne, however this is more expensive. Going in the other direction but boarding St Kilda is Windsor / South Yarra. Again there is Chapel Street which offers clubs, pubs, restaurants etc. All have a broad range of prices and cuisines.
Docklands is new and so the options are a little more limited, however I believe that this is developing daily. Again walking distance back to town, or a very short tram ride.
I know that there are loads of places out in the suburbs that are nice and offer lifestyle - Brighton leaps to mind - however I was brought up close in, so I have a big bias against the suburbs for the "cafe lifestyle" and much prefer being close to town.
I cannot unforntunatly make any comment towards where is best for a dance teacher, except to say that the School of the Arts is in town.
Hope some of this information helps, but if not and you want more details either PM or reply.
Good luck, Melbourne is a wonderful city!!
