SE Queensland is supposed to be the best area for Jacarandas.

They are not a native tree. They are originally from South America but can now be found all over the world where the climate suits them.

Jacarandas are my fave trees here closely followed by the gorgeous frangiapani which smells fantastic.
Does anyone know what those huge carpets of purple flowers are that sweep across the hillsdies at the moment? We saw them everywhere on our camper trip and they made the countryside come alive.

I grew up in Grafton which is known as the jacaranda city and has an annual jacaranda festival (the oldest folk festival in OZ - or so it is claimed) which runs from the the last weekend in Oct - first weekend in Nov.

I remember being a "jacaranda petal" as a child, doing the flower dance at Memorial Park and parading in the festival. I always wanted to be the Jacaranda Princess LOL, but fate had other ideas :D

Loads of Jacarandas in Perth but not in bloom yet (will be in Dec)

This was our street in Perth last year. Felt like I was back in Grafton :)

I noticed them when at the GC... I have never seen them in Melbourne though. Maybe it's too cold.

We were driving between Melbourne and Sydney although there seemed to be a lot more of it the nearer we got to Sydney. Great swaths covering the hillsides looked gorgeous.

Yes i think thats it!! Colour is right anyhow.

Why does anything with great beauty always have a downside. I shall love it from afar. I have enough trouble with heat rash!! :scared:
