There are lots around where we live,our next neighbours garden is completely covered in a blanket of purple petals,looks like purple snow :p its beautiful.

Donna. They are not a native tree. They are originally from South America but can now be found all over the world where the climate suits them. G |

Jacarandas are my fave trees here closely followed by the gorgeous frangiapani which smells fantastic.
Does anyone know what those huge carpets of purple flowers are that sweep across the hillsdies at the moment? We saw them everywhere on our camper trip and they made the countryside come alive. |

I always wanted to be the Jacaranda Princess LOL, but fate had other ideas :D Loads of Jacarandas in Perth but not in bloom yet (will be in Dec) This was our street in Perth last year. I noticed them when at the GC... I have never seen them in Melbourne though. Maybe it's too cold.

Could have been purple vetch. G We were driving between Melbourne and Sydney although there seemed to be a lot more of it the nearer we got to Sydney. Great swaths covering the hillsides looked gorgeous. |
