Anyone in mining?

Anyone in mining?
Now that we have the bond request, we're seriously looking at jobs and hubby will be getting an Aus CV together in the week.
He's an environmental engineer and does Health and Safety. There's two routes he could go down, either construction (which he's in now) or mining.
We're looking at basing ourselves in Perth and he's seen a really good job, which involves travel up to the Pilbara. This would mean that I'd have to hold the fort at home with the kids, but the opportunities for environmental engineering are much greater out there.
Does anyone else have experience of working in mining? I'm sure it will be a huge challenge, but hubby is cut out for it and can do a good job of it.
Cheers
Larissa

Re: Anyone in mining?
Hello Larissa
I've worked on a few mine sites over here but only for small shutdowns normally for a week or two.
Most of the work is 2 weeks on 1 or 2 off (fly in/out). I'm sure your husband is upto it but thats a long time to be away from home especially when you've just moved to a new country. I've got freinds who do it but it's not my cup of tea.
Sorry to sound negative.
