Anyone made the move from outside UK?
Hi guys - just wanted to ask if anyone out there has made the move from outside of the UK - we are coming out to Oz on a 457 sponsored visa, currently living in Italy and been informed today that we need to get our meds done - ok, brick wall number 1 - the whole of Italy is on shut down for the entire month of August, :curse: which includes all panel doctors - does anyone know if you can have your meds done in a country outside of your country of residence? We can drive up to Germany and get this done tomorrow with no problems, but impossible to get it done in Italy until September (by which time, we will have returned to the UK!!!) - also, my hubby has spoken to a radiologist in Germany who has said that they do not perform chest x-rays on under 15 year olds, but my 12 year old daughter has been told that she needs a chest x-ray - is this carried out at a specialist child centre or by the doctor who performs the actual medical? Thanks in advance guys.

In principle yes. Make sure you have an appointment and that the medical provider understands where to send the forms (it may be different from what they do usually).

We had our meds done in Germany (Hanover) the panel doctors know the requirements and will meet them. As you'd expect from the Germans - very efficient and nice people too!
I think we paid Euro 500 for a family of 3.
edited to add - we chose a doctor that had a radiologist on site - made things a bit simpler overall.
Hope this helps.

You can choose any panel doctor in the world - does not have to be in your country of residence. In fact, our country of residence does not even have a panel doctor (I live on a small Caribbena island), so we will have to make international flights in order to get our meds done.....not looking forward to that!

Hi,
Recently had our 457 visa approved for travel from Canada. The medical stuff proved a big delay. We only needed xrays. read up all the blurb carefully from the IMMI website. Getting a booking took a long time. The IMMI blurb says if Xray only, you do not need a referral from a panel doctor. Got to the hospital finally. The senior radiologist turned out to be another british expat and was very familiar with the Aussie procedures. She warned us that even though they say they don't require a referral from a panel doctor, she had put others through like this and their results had been sent back (ever so politely) by IMMI saying do them all over again and you should have used a panel doctor. So to avoid any chance that would happen, we rescheduled after getting referred by the one and only local panel doctor. Did the xrays. Then they get sent via the panel doctor's office (if not done this way, you may be in trouble again) to Sydney for examination where they sit in a great big heap for an indefinite period. They patiently wait to see how long you will stand it before you crack. Finally after you ask about five times what is going on they decide to look at them and then if all is well they issue your visa. It took us 6 months to get the 457 visa even though initially we were told this is the "fast track" option. The immigration people are evidently very bogged down by volume of applications.
So make sure you go through a panel doctor for your tests and make sure they fill in the paperwork properly, sign the photos properly etc to be sure it doesn't come back rejected. And be ready to wait for months.
Good luck!!
Rob

Hi we are Brits and had our meds done in Germany in Dortmund our 11 yr old daughter had her chest x ray there. It was simple and very efficient and resonably priced as well. I can really recomend them but I suppose thats a little far to travel?

Hiya,
I'm in Norway, had the meds done here, twice but 2 years apart, and both totally different, passed both though, and prices roughly the same,
Nice to see others out of the country though......

I applied from China. Took nearly two years altogether to get all the info, and now here I am! Good luck to all those applying

One of the most interesting aspects was going through medicals there.
As there are a lot of people doing medicals for visas to various countries they have specialized centers doing that work.
A bit like an efficient production line. You go from one station to next with your forms, get one thing checked and signed, move to the next, all in one place all done within a couple of hours, just a few days wait for blood test results.

Hello,
We did it from Prague. If you want a holiday, Prague charges very cheap prices for the medicals.
Eg worked out about 5 UK pound for x ray! I chose a private clinic as the state hospital had a bit of a wait. Doctor speaks English and very laid back, reckon he would just about pass anyone! He was on the list of approved docs.
Got an appointment within a couple of days.
