Anyone Live in The Hunter Valley/Region??
Hiya
Just wanted to get a general idea of what some of the areas within the region are like. We have always been dead set for Tassie but after OH went and validated back in the Winter he decided that it may be better to move there and we have researched it and it looks lovely but I now need some 'real' opinions!! and suggestions of good / bad areas etc...
Thanks

There are a couple of people on here that live around Singleton, Maitland or Lake Macquarie. If you do a search on each of those areas, or on Hunter Valley you should come up with a few discussions and people to contact.

It kind of depends what you want from life as to which bit of the Hunter is worth a look. If you want loads of facilities, then you'd be better off around Newcastle or Maitland. Or venture a bit further north and go for Port Stephens for the beaches, and it's only about a 45 minute drive to Newcastle.
I'd give Singleton a miss because it's one big dust-bowl these days due to the open cut coal mines surrounding the town - but, having said that, there is a lot of money to be made in the mines if you've got the right skills.
I like the Upper Hunter, around the Scone region, but it doesn't have the infrastructure that you'd find in the Lower Hunter.

Thanks everyone for your replies....I know it's a huge area and Jerad has been looking at so many different parts I like the look/sound of the Scone area (love that name!!) We don't want to live in the 'main' place but at the same time we can't live totally out in the sticks as we have 5 kids !! He keeps looking up a place called Toronto.....i'm going to look on real estate aus in a minute to see where it is!!!
Thanks and keep them coming
