Re: anyone live in Adelaide
Don't live there, but been there 3 times and have friends north of city.
You should definitely spend a day in the Barossa valley on a wine tour, take a tram to Glenelg, may be go up to Mount Lofty, go to Handorf, maybe Kangaroo Island (not been there yet myself). Also in the city take a boat trip on the river torrens and botanic gardens. From Adelaide you can take the train to the red centre, not done that either. Best of luck and enjoy your trip.. Mash... Also recommend a trip to Victor harbour (south), ride camel on beach, take horse drawn tram to Granite island (penguins/whales). Go a bit further and see Murray river mouth (silting up!) and Coorong.
Take a boat trip from Port Adelaide, might see dolphins. So much to do... Mash.. Originally posted by Carrianne thanks for the prompt reply Carrianne x |
I have lived in Adelaide for almost 12 years. I live in the outer southern suburbs which I believe is the best place especially if you like the beach.
There are places to eat out just about everywhere so no particular recommendations apart from the Hogs Breath Cafe at Glenelg which I love. Jetty Road Glenelg is a great place on a Sunday afternoon, it really buzzes with people and posers. There is a good market at Port Adelaide on Sundays and public holidays, and there are some beautiful places in the courtyside to visit - McLaren Vale, the Barossa, Victor Harbor, the Yorke Peninsula etc. It is quite quiet here and a much slower pace of life than the UK. Adelaide is colloqially known as a big country town. If you are after nightlife then Rundle Street or Hindley Street are the places to go. Personally I prefer a walk on the beach at sunset. Please email me with any questions that you want answers for as it is so hard to put everything in a short reply here. Regards Sharon |

maybe one day we'll be living there and able to offer advice! Susan and Rod |
I've lived here on and off for 28 years, some great beaches:
Maslin's (nude beach) Moonta Bay Waitpinga (surfing) Eating out: Hyatt Skycity Casino ( CasinoGrill - YOU MUST TRY the swordfish steak and the Ceasar Salad) Choy Sin (best Chinese in town) Tanunda Hotel (great steaks - Barossa Valley) Adelaide has a more relaxed atmosphere than Melbourne or Sydney and is MUCH cheaper to live. We've had several poms visit over the years - a couple have come here to live and the rest are trying. Good Luck. |
Hi Thanks for your reply, we are staying at the hyatt so I am glad that came up first.
Adelaide does seem pretty chilled out like where we live anyway over here, quite quiet relaxed. I have kept your comments Carrianne x |
