Anyone know a nice village within comute to Newcastle, NSW?
Hi We have just taken our medicals so hopefully not be too long now.
Heading for newcastle as hubby is a boiler maker but don't want city life. Can anyone recommend a lovely village with amenties good schools etc? But within commuting distance to industry in newcastle? Eldest will be starting high school next jan (thats our deadline to be there by). we woulkd like to start looking at house prices but have no idea which towns etc are nice.
Can anyone help?

Hi - I live about twenty minutes inland from Newcastle, on the edge of a place called Maitland. What kind of place do you want to live in? Because some of the "towns" along the new england highway are little more than a group of houses with maybe a bowling club or petrol pump if you're lucky.
If you stick along the coast you will find prices more expensive than they are inland. There are some nice suburbs around the edges of Newcastle, but it depends on what you consider is 'commutable'?
Also, when you say you don't like city life, what kind of cities are you thinking of? Because IMO Newcastle NSW is nothing like a 'proper' UK city! Reminded me more of somewhere like Cheltenham than Bristol, for example.
You also have the options of being a bit south of Newcastle - closer to Sydney & all it has to offer - or a bit north, closer to Port Stephens & gorgeous beaches up there. So many options!!

hi
we live at lake macquarie, which is just beautiful, houses range in price, on the east side you pay anything from 300 - 700 grand depending on what your after, west side is a bit cheaper, schools generally have a good reputation here also, public and private, plus your only about a 10 min drive from the nearest beach, and newcastle is about a 20 minute drive, pm me if you want anymore info
