Anyone heard of Veda Advantage Public Enquiries?
Very interesting................ paid off mortgage and credit cards before leaving the UK - felt very good about this. Debt free for first time in years! Haven't had a credit card/debit card since arriving here and never applied for one. As we need to book flights online up to Cairns I popped into local Westpac to talk to one of their advisors about getting one. I explained that it was only to be used for booking the flights online and would be paid off in full at the end of the month. She checked my employment history etc All got the thumbs up. She then asked if I wanted to add the OH to the account, I said yes. Gave his full name and address, she put the request through online and it came back with a warning!!!! She said it had been declined due to information held by Veda Advantage!
She asked if we'd ever had any late fees for payments - nope, any credit cards in Australia, nope, CCJ's - nope, any debts at all - nope! Mark is obviously concerned as at some point we'll need a mortgage! He's written off requesting whatever information they have on him to be made available to us ($30 fee tho). Lady at Westpac lovely but she couldn't explain it. She said it may be that Mark is just unlucky enough to have the same name and DOB as someone who owes a fair bit of $$$'s. Anyone else heard of this?

I got my report form them recently and it listes enquiries by credit providers. I had no "bad" things but the report includes a section to report on things like consumer credit overdue accounts; bankruptcies, court orders etc.

If you are paying $30 then you are supposed to get your credit back very quickly. It is free if you are prepared to wait a few days.

I suspect there may be a 'fault' on his file. I'm sure there was some recent report (Today Tonight or similar) whcih suggested VEDA may have had mistakes in 10% of its files.

As Mark would know for his PNC experience, being a copper, records that rely on name checks do have occasional hiccups - its quite probable that its just someone with the same/very similar name
