Default Anyone got worms??

Nothing to do with Oz or NZ - but am I the only one getting literally hundreds of emails a day, all but one or two being "undeliverable" messages from postmasters replying to people I've never heard of?

There must be worms around and emails are becoming impossible.

I don't use OE, only a pure ASCII on Compu$erve, so I don't think it's anything to do with my comfuser. Anyone know what's going on?

I had something like that on my computer about 18 months ago. Have heard of a couple of people since then with the same virus. Think we just updated our version of McAfee and ran that and it seemed to clear, not 100% as there's 4 of us using this PC!

I am getting loads originating from Nigeria offering me a large % of some dead relatives trapped millions and also loads with stupid titles which are meant to convince you to open attachments, as if I'd be so stupid, they get deleted straight away.
But how do you filter them out or stop them getting through to your inbox??

I've been getting loads of these within the past 2 days as well... apparently there have been some new worms released within the past few weeks that are now running amok across the internet.

My guess is that someone I know who has my e-mail address stored on their computer has been infected, hence the reason why my address has been picked up (I know my computer is clean, and it's an e-mail address I only use to communicate with friends).

Make sure you run an anti-virus program on your computer, just in case (if you don't have one, McAfee has a free internet version).

Yes, I use AVG. But I don't think it's anything to do with me, as AVG says I'm clear and anyway the returned mails refer to people I have never heard of!

Up now to 300 today....

These nasty blighters look in the infected computers address book and send out mails randomly to someone and from someone else. So (for example) if you have emailed you bank manager at some point and his / her computer gets infected it could send out emails pretending to be from you to anybody else he has in his address book.
They are a nightmare to trace, although it is sometimes possible.
We get about 130 a day at work and I spend about 15% of my time dealing with them

Have you got a free download programme called spybot?
I am sure that will help. You can find spybot by tapping in the name on any search engine.
Let me know if this helps.

Yes, I think that's the answer. I've never used Outlook Express (wouldn't know how to!) nor any other email program except the proprietary Compu$erve one, which is probably not compromised. That's the only address book I have, anyway. As you say, it's well nigh impossible to trace back to an infected comfuser.
