Default Anyone got WINTV?

Can anyone tell me (but keep it simple folks!) how the video streaming works? Would it be possible to have a PC with Wintv in the UK, then stream the picture so you could watch it in OZ/NZ?

Or can you only do that with, say, a camcorder?

Is this what you'd need to show video to people back home, and how easy is it for them to access it?

I have had WINTV on my PC for four years now, and it comes with all the software for video conferencing etc. Also with video input on the card, you can plug in a normal camcorder, not just a webcam. Also due to the normal aerial input, I can get all the free cable channels, video recorder and 'Sky' decoder on my PC. It's great for capturing pictures off the TV and posting them.

See, 'Powerpuff Girls' were on as I was typing:

Cheers Steve, but have you used the video bit? It's just that I read about video streaming & wasn't really sure what it was all about.
I understood that you could put video on to the internet with it. I then wondered if you could put the telly picture on it also, (then we could watch the Powerpuff Girls down under! )

True, but if there's nothing on telly to keep the wife amused then will be out of the question!

I haven't tried it, but I suppose if you choose 'TV' as your input you should be able to. Try their website and ask a technical question. Or their phone number. (0207 378 0202)

DVD quality is somewhere around 2.5 Mbits/second. ADSL will give an OK picture in a quarter size screen but there will be dropouts over the Internet. With modems I'd suggest forgetting about it. This is purely bandwidth concerns, I've no idea what the winTV itself is like.

Steve, just found out how to do it. There's some software called Snapstream, think you can download a trial version, which works like a Tivo. It will record programs through wintv onto your hard drive, which you can then stream over the internet. So, it's sort of possible. Apparently half hour of vhs quality would only use around 150mb. I might get both & have a play! (It might come in useful)
We've been downloading stuff like films & TV (eg. series 2 of '24'!), I guess this is how people record them in the first place.

So, yes, I think I've answered my question!
Thanks for the number,

Gra....
