We live in Bellbowrie, about 25 minutes drive from Ipswich centre.
Be reassured there are lots of good things about Ipswich: relatively inexpensive housing, good schools (Ipswich Grammar Boys and Girls - single sex, West Moreton), new shopping centre (Coles, Woolys, Target, K-Mart etc), easy commute into town etc. If you don't want to live in Ipswich itself have a look at Mount Crosby, Karana Downs both really nice areas with good schools, or areas further to the west, I've heard Rosewood is nice.
Some not so good areas (but that's the case everywhere).
All the best

Rach, there's a bit about Ipswich in my Brissie reccie here - I've stayed with my friends in Ipswich 3 times now and haven't found any problems with it as a visitor.

Personally don't like it at all, there's not much there and it's in the middle of nowhere.
We drove out there one Sunday (from Brisbane) thought we'd have a look around and stop off for some lunch. It was dead! There was nowhere open (apart from a scummy looking pub) for lunch - from memory, even the KFC was shut LOL! The housing that we saw all looked kinda run down. This was about a year ago, so it might have changed (and it's just my opinion and all that). We didn't stay for long, put it that way Sorry, but you did ask ....

Sorry but IMO I wouldn't even think about it if you are commuting into city. I'm not saying these are not nice areas, but I live in Kenmore which you would pass on your way to city (it's 10kms out). I'm hearing reports from friends who live in Karana and so on that it is taking them 45-60 mins just to get to Kenmore and then the same again to get into the city. Unfortunately the infrastructure is appalling and the road (yes there is only one/two lane road all the way in) cannot cope with the volumes of housing that have been put up out that way.

The commute your talking of is one I do every working day, it's never taken me an hour to get to Kenmore. It takes on average an hour plus or minus ten minutes, door to door, and I work right behind the GOMA in South Brisbane (CBD).
Also the title of the thread is 'anyone got ANYTHING nice to say about Ipswich???'. If you haven't then don't.

From reading the original post she said nothing of commuting in to the city (Brisbane). She said her husband worked in Ipswich hospital.

It is a nice enough area but it all depends on what you want( tonnes of traffic). They obviously don't know as much about Mt Crosby or Karana downs as they think.
We looked all over brisbane from Vicky point , Kenmore, bellbowrie, moggil , the list goes on.
We eventually decided on Karalee and love it to bits.
It is an Ipswich suburb but only just. Some of Ipswiches suburbs are very dodgy and some of the people do actually have 2 heads
But you could say the same about many Brisbane suburbs, Inala, Darra etc.
Just because you work in Ipswich doesn't mean you have to live next door. Lots of nice suburbs close by.
Karana Downs had the highest increase in land value of any Brisbane suburb last year, and the real investment is in the western corridor I'm told.
Must say though that if I could afford it I would live in Upper brookefield...

PS... Ipswich centre is not a particuly nice place in parts but riverlink is great and not to busy..

Chill. I think there was a misunderstanding as to which "city" was being discussed.

No, she didn't.
Yes, I am.
The point I was making was that Rach (the original poster) was seeking reassurance; not as to whether she'd made the right or the wrong decision or even as to whether Ipswich is the' best' or possibly 'worst' place to live. She was just after some simple reassurance previous to emigrating. Something I'm sure we all were in need of at some point during this process.
