Thanks. I will keep you updated of their progress. Is your son your only child? To qualify for a parents visa you have to have the majority of your children living in Oz. One of them has to have been living here for two years to sponser you. My sister has been here two years, not as a pr, but on student visas, which still counts. My mum and dad are using an agent. Maybe you could get in touch with one to see do you qualify. There have been threads recommending good ones if you do a search.

HTH and good luck
Katie

Hi all,
your right on Katie with the bit about having more offspring in Oz than in the UK. friends of mine in Sydney are going through it with there mum now! she sent her application off two and a half years ago and has had her meds and all, but still waiting for visa to come through. there is a designated amount of retirement visas they allow per year and it is quite low 500 I think, could be wrong though. the only advice I could give Summers Nan is the same as Katie, talk to an agent and the sooner the better. cos the Ozzie's dont rush themselves for much.
all us Essex lot should really pull our fingers out and get together at some point...
all the best hope yer dreams come true

The Balance of family test means that you have to have HALF your children normally resident in Australia OR more living in Australia than any other country.

If you have 2 children then only 1 needs to live in Australia.

Above 2 kids it gets more difficult unless half of them are in Australia.

The more children the more complicated it gets.

You also need to pass medicals and have an assurer who needs a certain level of income.

There is a difference between the Parent visa and the Contributory parent visa.

The parent visa has a wait of around 10 years.

The CP visa is more expensive but there are several thousand (3500) places per year and takes 6-9 months.

Got visas end of September, flying to Brisbane 12th October for 3 weeks and hoping to move as soon as house sells and hubby works his notice!

Hope to sponsor mil who is 72 once we have citizenship in 2 (or possibly 3) years time!

Regards

We've lived in Loughton for the last 6 years (both came from the Southwest to London for University so not Essex born), hopefully we should be in Sydney before the end of the year.

You don't have to be citizens to sponsor somebody. Just here for two years.

Hi Kris

Good luck. We moved here in April. It was a nice time to move out. Autumn, so not too warm, and we knew it would get colder before it would get hotter so helping us to acclimatise.
