Anyone else in their 40's and 50s?
Hi all,
Just reading the threads and I get the impression that most of the people who post on BE's are considerably younger than myself.
I'm in my mid 50's (but young at heart). I'm moving up to Sherwood in Brisbane in 2 weeks time from Sydney to start a new life and I'm eager to meet other people for social get togethers/drinks etc.
I'm interested to know how other people around my age found settling into Brisbane life and meeting new friends and would welcome any suggestions.
Chris.

Hi all,
Glad to hear that there are other "golden oldies" who post on BE's.
How long have you been in Brisbane and did you find it difficult settling in/ meeting new people? Initially I'm sure that much of my time will be spent getting the house together and finding a job, (I also have a son living in Thornlands) but I'm a little apprehensive about developing a social life.

Thanks Tracey.
Yes I know Cleveland. I agree it's a really nice suburb but we decided to live closer to town as my husband works 2 days a week at West End and 2 days in Ipswich. I've no idea where I'll be working so at least Sherwood is Central and gives me lots of options.
I'm looking forward to starting again and from the replies it sounds like Brisbane is friendly. I've just got to make the effort to try everything and anything going. (well, within reason)

Hi Chris we are a couple more hurtling towards their sell by date hubby is 41 I'm 50 (going on 18). We have had no problems making friends and socialising. I think the secret is NEVER to turn down an invitation no matter how 'not your scene' it may appear. We have made some good friends in the most unlikely places.
Good luck and welcome to Brisbane

I've just seen there is a meet up arranged for Sunday 1st July at the Plough on Southbank. Maybe you would like to come along to meet some more Brissie folks The thread is; A meet up in for the brissy or northsiders
why not have a look and see if you would like to 'make one in'.

You could also join activity groups. I've joined a walking group called Walking for Pleasure, Brisbane. They tend to be quite a bit older, in fact we had an 80th birthday party for one of them a couple of weeks ago. Pretty fit for 80! There's a lot of activities like this that attract people that are just starting to get a bit of their life back after kids have left high school and don't need ferrying round to all the weekend sporting events. there's a special group for people over 50 called GOLD, Getting Old and Living Dangerously. Just google on it. Also try ourbrisbane.com and check out all the activities.

I am very touched by your offer. I will definately PM you once I move up to Sherwood. It will be good to chat to someone who is familiar with the neighbourhood and can give me some tips on what is available in the area.
Speak to you soon
Chris.
