Redlynch valley geta more rain than Redlynch itself & apparently is more damp & humid. That said, it is a very popular suburb.
Just a word of warning, the type of work you will be looking for is in short demand at the moment & temp jobs are also thin on the ground. Of course if your OH is at the university, this may help if there are jobs there.
Good luck, you are moving at a great time of year in Cairns.

I agree Sal.

The floor of the Redlynch valley can be stifling hot due to the very high hills around it. There are about half a dozen roads that lead from the main thoroughfare up the hillside and breezes are more prevalent up them but in general it's still hotter, wetter and humid.

Brinsmead is built on the leeward side of Mount Whitfield and therefore the lower levels of the suburb can also be very hot as the predominantly South Easterly winds blow over the top and across the valley toward Sally and I.

Hi Sally,

Thank you for your kind message, I arrived in Cairns last week, and to say it's been a bit hectic is an understatement I think, lol!
We've moved into a new apartment in Clifton Beach which is lovely, and I've spent the last few days doing admin bits like bank accounts, medicare etc. It's a lot easier than I imagined now that I'm actually here I have to say!
Thank you for all your advice, I would say the expat network is invaluable for people like myself moving to new countries, it's been a great help. :)
