Anyone any good with snakes??
Found this in the garage today, it is the second one in 2 days. About a foot long, brown coloured with a black head quite thin.

depending where you live, look up local council wildlife service - I'm sure they can help you/send someone out?

You really should get a lot closer to take a good indentifiable pic.

Lol, unless you live where we do - the OH nearly got bitten by a duguite in the garden and when she rang the ranger he was very nice but explained if you live on a bush block you will have snakes

Looks like a brown to me. I dispatched a baby brown yesterday trying to get in through our kitchen glass door.
Yours looks like the right colour and to me it seems like the 2 black strips at the back of the head have merged into one big block. The one I got had 2 distinct stripes, but I'd be fairly confident it's one.
On a rural block so we know they're out there.

Do you have any cats ?, l knew someone who had a snake problem and they got a few cats and after that they never saw any snakes again, maybe the cats ate all the mice and stuff the snakes eat or they scared the snakes away l don't know.

Either that or your cats will start to disappear - then you know you have a problem!

Hi there Howard
Where do you live? Always a good indicator. I support the comment that its a juvenile brown but there are quite a few small species that have similar looks.
When I moved from London many years ago I became an enthusiastic reptile collector and had a huge collection when I was about 12. Still a big interest. They do not pose any threat to people and one of the fascinating things here in Oz.
Cheers

Looking at the head there doesn't appear to be a scale separating the one in front of the eye (preocular) and the nasal one. It's definately an elapid and as already mentioned probably Brown snake (pseudonaja sp).
So don't pick it up lol, there will be snake removers within your area, call your local wildlife department, council or police and they will forward you some phone numbers.

Snake (s) have not been seen again, we do live on a rural bush block - only lived here 6 weeks so we are not totally clued up on the snake thing. We live in Geraldton 450km North or Perth - I assume that makes a difference to the type of snake it could be?
