Didn't intend to imply anything negative about Coolangatta. In fact adjacent Kirra is much more the surfing mecca than the touristy Surfers. I though the raison d'etre was to contrast QLD/NSW for a would be house builder.

Though I lived in Brisbane I liked the Northern NSW region very much, and for anyone who hasn't yet travelled from QLD to NSW via the Natural Arch (variously named Natural Bridge) and Numinbah Valley consider it. The view of the NSW fields from the border sentry hut is superb.

It's an awful long time since I was in Southampton so I don't know Trafford Centre is the biggest place up north. I guess you could try Pacific Fair at Broadbeach (a few Ks past Surfers).

The Ocean side of North Stradbrooke Island is the place to head for. Check it out at http://www.stradbroke-island.com.au/surf_beaches.htm

QBSA is the Registration Body for Builders in Qld http://www.bsa.qld.gov.au/contractor/ from what I gather DOFT is the NSW body http://www.fairtrading.nsw.gov.au/bu...ntractors.html
