Unhappy Is anybody out there genned up on one-way flights?

I have been all round the houses over the last few days, some people have said go through the Commonwealth Bank, its much cheaper if you have an account with them...........not according to them its not.

Tried various travel agents, none of them seemed to get below £1029.00 (2 adults 1 infant) none of them were able to find out about increased baggage allowances, and how you get them.

Tried many if not all the online companies, prices are cheaper, but there is no 'person' at the other end, to ask about luggage allowances and extra legroom seats for our baby daughter...........

Also heard about these 'cheaper' migrant flights especially for people who are emigrating, but they are even dearer than the normal one-way flights.

Does anyone have the definitive answer of how to get two one-way tickets (plus an infant under two) from Manchester to Perth in mid-May.

Much obliged if any of you do...........especially if you have one or two weblinks to point us in the right direction.

Manchester immediately narrows your possiblilites down to BA/Qantas, Singapore, Emirates and ...........? You can of course go from Manchester to London if you want to fly Malaysian, Austrian Airlines etc, etc. I have read somewhere else, possibly on here, about which airlines offer the migrant baggage allowance and how you obtain it. Have you tried a search in here? Sorry I couldn't be more definitive. I also remember people being promised the extra allowance without getting it in writing or marked on their ticket and getting the '20 kg maximum' treatment at the airport so I would get it in writing.

If you are flying with an under two year old you get the seats at the front of each section, as your child needs the extra room to mess in. Try keeping an 18 month old for 20 hours and a bit.

Back to the topic, we plan to fly with Emirates as they are the only airline that does one stop (Manchester-Dubai.....Dubai-Perth) apart from Singapore, but they have a 12 hour wait for your second flight, which really leaves you in limbo for half a day. Consequently we plan to go with Emirates. Anybody been with Emirates and how did you get the baggage allowance if you used them.

To get the baggage allowance, book your tickets, then approach the airline direct through their customer services - not all airlines will do it, and its only on permanent, unvalidated visas, one-way flights. Even if the travel agent says they can arrange it, check it with the airline rather than turn up at the airport and find they know nothing about it.
Its a perk, not a right, but most people seem to manage to get it.

The one that seems a problem is Qantas - they said they would only do it if I used their special Migrant fare and booking service...... £200 more than Cathay were doing a flight for. I want with Cathay and got the extra baggage.
