Any Single Parents out there?

Don't worry i havent mistaken this site for a dating site :scared:
I am just wondering if there are any other single parents going through this out there? I am so determined to make it all work but not having anyone to share it with is difficult.
Im worried that i will have enough money to support us all - although i will scrub toilets with my bare hands if i need to to support my family. so many questions............................:scared:

I am not a single parent, however I just wanted to say how much I admire you for taking this step. I think it is a stressful enough journey with the support of a partner, but to do it with just your children, WOW!!!!!!!
I am sure you will be fine, you are obviously a very determined person and therefore i am sure things will work out just fine for you. You will have everybody on here to support you through your lows and share your highs. Good luck.

oooooooooh leechy thankyou for that! you have made me all emotional. Determined? some people would call it stubborness LOL but i guess determined is a far better way of puttin it :D
i honestly cant wait to get out there and start the rest of our lives. I jsut know it is the right thing to do. I know it is going to be bloody hard work but i am prepared to put every thing i have into the whole thing. it WILL work. returning is not an option. i am taking daughter out to perth at easter and i know when we get back she will be exactly the same! my eldest is going to finish his degree before he joins us (2 years) and then he wants to join the WA police. YOungest will just be glad to be able to play outside after 4pm in the winter!

Hi - I'm a single parent of two sons (5 and 2). I emigrated to NZ and Australia married but am now alone and have moved Interstate from Melbourne to Perth for a fresh start. Not quite such a massive move to do alone but still pretty big. If you need anything, give me a shout - happy to help. I haven't been in Perth long so I'm still finding my feet but people are very friendly here and I'm making a network fairly quickly actually. You'll be fine :-) PM me as necessary.

Hi natmcg. How do you manage with childcare? I am applying for PR and we will be working full time as a nurse. I dont seem to be able to get any info on how people manage when they are relying on childcare organisations rather than friends and family. Help!!

Hi Bobbie,

I am at home full time so I am the childcare! Childcare is expensive here and there is a long waiting list (I'm told 6 months in Perth - possibly longer in other cities). My eldest son's school operates a very good 'out of hours' care program, which I intend to make use of during the holidays and when my youngest is at the same school, I'll no doubt make use of it with him too and finally get back into the work force but my youngest is still very little and anyway, they won't take him until he's at least 5 years old. There are some child care places that'll take from just a few months old I believe but I'm afraid I wouldn't know where. Probably best to look in the yellow pages (www.yellowpages.com.au) and see what you can find - that's where I'd start anyway. Good luck!

Hi,

I am going to WA all on my own with 3 kids, the 4th will come three years later after she finished her education. My biggest fear is to stand all alone. There was a film on TV about a young couple moving to Melbourne some days ago. His parents were already there for a long time. They picked up the young ones at the airport, gave them shelter and any help they needed. The tears were rolling because there will be nobody for me....

But I will succeed somehow and perhaps find someone to support me, at least for the first hard time.

I am planning to go to Perth in June with the 16-year old, search job and house and let the 11- and 8-year old come at christmas.

So natmcg and daunted and others: We are perhaps the extemption but not the only ones:thumbup: ...

Hi Bobbie your plan sounds similar to mine! Visa application has gone of but not sure the £2.50 in my pocket is enough to go with, must cut down on shoes and handbags.

I came to Melbourne 3 yrs ago with a 13 and 14 yr old, its not easy making friends when you are on your own but its worth the effort.
Good luck
