any recommendations on who to use for shipping a vehicle?
after trying unsuccessfully to sell the quad bike (believe me, i've tried ),
we have now decided to ship it, rather than leave it here to rot in my parents garage. it is in mint condition and has hardly been used, so we may as well bring it with us.
can anybody point me in the right direction? i believe i have to apply for the import of it - is that right? does that cost anything?
and who to use for the shipping?

I brought my motorcycle and 2 jetski's over with me. If the bike had
been less than 15 yrs old, I would have had to pay import duties on
it, with a quad you wont have to do import duties because its not a
road going vehicle. I had to pay a fee/duty on each of the jetskis,
which is supposedly refundable after 2 years if you / i hadnt sold
them. I tried that but it was going to be so much hassle, I just let
them keep it. I cant remember now, but I think it was $200 bucks
each. you have to get approval before shipping it over, else it will
be rejected and sent back at your expense, and because of good old
foot and mouth, and mad cow disease, the quad will have to be
spotlessly clean,,,,,,, better than new, else they will quarantine
it, and you have to pay a company to steam clean it, I had to get the
jet ski trailor done, and its not cheap. I cant remember how much,
but I do remember arguing about it. check this link out
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4371 that should just about
tell you everything. Oh yeah, for the shipping I got several
quotes, and the cheapest for me was Allied Pickfords.
Hope it helps
Nick.
