Default Any recommendations; inland drive from Melbourne to Gold Coast?

We're having too much time on our hands, and are looking to drive from Melbourne to the Gold Coast in a few months to do the touristy thing there; theme parks and all + getting to see some sights.

I know there's plenty of booring parts, but there ought to be some good sights on the way. Hope anyone have any recommendations.

Thanks in advance!

Big drive, but good.

Go via Bathurst if you can. Really nice town. (west of Lithgow, near Orange)
Dubbo would be on your way - great zoo.

You should pm Only Me (Robert and Ann) - they drove from Melbourne to the GC when they moved here and would have a few tips for you, I'm sure. Best of luck and have a ball when you get here Michelle x

Albury > Corryong > Thredbo > Cooma > Canberra > Yass > Cowra > Bathurst > Katoomba? > Mudgee > Tamworth > Armidale > Tenterfield > Casino > GC.

There's a bit of variety for those with time on their hands.

Come off it - the Newell Highway (most direct route from Melbourne to SE QLD) is not exactly outback territory!

It's a busy road with cars and trucks, with a small town every 50k or so. If you drive it at the start and end of the Victorian school holidays it will be full of families from Melbourne heading to and from the QLD for their holidays.

Plenty of things to see on the way. Don't know about the Victorian side, but in NSW check out the telescope at Parkes (the one in the Dish film), great scenery around the Warrumbungles near Coonabarabran and an interesting swimming pool in Moree - as well as the usual Dubbo Zoo etc.

Hels Bells has done it a few times and is planning on doing it again in January. Unfortunately she is on a "break" at the moment so she might read this but obviously won't reply
