5) cheap flights to Europe and through North & South America
6) cheaper rental market
7) very very multicultural
8) very strong interest in outdoor activities

cons canada:
1) disgustingly expensive post-secondary tuition
2) low minimum wage
3) 27 degrees is considered very very hot..when it hits 30 degrees, we hibernate and don't go out (exaggeration but hey u get the idea)
4) workaholics
5) 2 weeks paid holidays is considered to be the norm rather than 4 (?) weeks
6) parts of the country gets snowed for 1/3rd to 1/2 of the year..

i could go on..and on

Thanks guys
Yes, Australia and Canada are similar. They're both relatively young countries, both about the same cost of living (well Toronto/Perth anyway), multicultural and all that other stuff.

Funny, we chose England or Ireland as our first choices but the visa options weren't there for us.

2) yes theres less dangerous marine life in Canada but does that matter when its too cold to enter the water anyway.
7) OZ is very multicultural also, well Sydney and Melbourne is
8) Theres also plenty of interst in outdoors in OZ and OZ has a better climate for it.
Have you ever been to Canada? I have never seen a polar bear except at Toronto Zoo and the once I saw a grizzly it was while hiking in Banff National Park; the bear was about 100m down the mountain from where we were sitting. People swim in the lakes/rivers/oceans in Canada just like they would in any other country.

Jeez I really wish people would learn some basic facts before they make stupid generalisations about things. Especially when they clearly know nothing about what they're spouting on about.

1) Grizzly bears tend to usually only roam around in the national parks/large foresty areas. I've gone hiking three times in Girabaldi park and I'm still alive? As for polar bears, what Dorothy said, they can be found in the zoo or in the northern territories or yukon.

2) Wetsuits?

3) I'm guessing High UV Index doesn't always make for a better climate.

Yeesh...

Or in downtown Churchill Manitoba. Or according to some, downtown Toronto.

I have a friend who is a marine biologist. He used to work as a summer job as a shipwreck conservationist diving on wrecks in northern Lake Superior. Now that's cold water!!!!

You're guessing right. For a lot of the summer here I rarely go outside during the heat of the day. Although, there is a whole lot less humidity here in WA than there was in southern Ontario.
Yeesh...
I guess where people move to really depends on what they're looking for. So long as they're realistic in their expectations.

They both seem to come very high up on most international surveys so both countries have a lot going for them. Would say it would come down to lifestyle, weather preferences. Make a list of what you like doing and then match it up to cities maybe?

My wife is from Perth and lived in Canada, and UK. You wouldn't get her back to UK even for a holiday. You could probably convince her to Holiday in western Canada.
As for me, grew up in Canada loved it but dont miss it, Lived in UK for 10 years loved it dont miss it either and am now in Perth and am enjoying it.
I would only consider Canada if it was Calgary or west. Not sure I could hack
5 months of winter, though. I couldnt hack the two weeks a year holiday either.
I enjoy working life better in UK and Australia.

This is my two bobs worth. Australia is way better than Canada, the food and lifestyle and the people anyway, though Canada has some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet, I just found the cities too American and the Canadians did not strike me as the happiest people on the planet... sorry to any Canadians reading this!!!
