how many of you
what do you need
how close to the city

etc etc

if you tell us more we can be more specific

have a look at

www.cracker.com.au
www.gumtree.com.au (and look for melbourne on right side of home page)

both are like loot in the uk and are generally from private listers

the rest of the houssing market goes via estate agents to rent, and they are pretty anal.

Its not like the uk where you can pick up the local rag and get a house for rent in the back

come prepared to queue up on a saturday morn with others to look at properties and have a folder with all your documents photocopies ready to get your app in that day as others come prepared too.

Good luck

pounds or dollars?

if its dollars then probably, if its pounds then definately. you can have our back bedroom for that much lol with lunch and brekkie thrown in

if you want to be central and have a good look at things, then near me is good in williamstown.

Down the road you have a beach all \to itself, lovely shops and some nice cafes, restaurants and a lovely view of the city.

There is a great guest house called williamstown junction which is 4 mins walk to newport station.

It has everything yoiu need like a kitchen and bathroom, is dead clean and the rooms are like a wing of a house with a central kitchen and bathroom, free laundry ironing board.

Some may say its a hostel, but id say its that quiet its more like a guest house. Therer arent any dorms and its alot like very nice clean digs for workers from out of town.

She doesnt advertise but we got to find out abhout her from williamstown tourist info office

there is a 3 bed edwardian lodge built on the front which is rentable too. We rented a room there under the pretense that if anyone else came in over the weekend then we had to share the lounge kitchen and bathroom. We took our chances and ended up with the place to ourselve for the week at 100 dollars a night. We were lucky but would have stayed in the rooms at the back without hesitation.

All were immaculately clean and nice furnishings, all looked brand new.

The guest house at the front had no expense spared

heres the website

http://www.theguesthouse.com.au/tariffs.asp

colleen is the owner and is very accomodating and you could barter her down for the weeks you are there i reckon.

Its 15 mins in to cbd on a main line, 2 mins from westgate freeway and quiet enough to be a sanctuary. and at about 135 dollars for 3 of you a night is within budget

hope this helps

Stay in Gleneagles, you will find it on Stayz.com it is in Mornington on the beach front near Mornington town and easy access to everywhere using the Neapean Highway or Mornington Freeway. Very nice clean big and cheap we stayed for 1 month on arrival and would highly recommend.
