Default Any ideas what else we can do in Brisbane?

hi we are coming over for a reccie/holiday in a few weeks and were wondering if any one has any ideas of things to see/do in Brisbane/surrounding areas.

We have found and planned to do the following:

Lone Pine or Australia Zoo
Movieworld
Wet and Wild
Seaworld
Southbank

Any suggestions would be great we have 2 kids age 5 and 9.

You could ride the city cat (or ferry) down the Brisbane river for some sight seeing.

There's the Queen Street Mall in the city, not really for the kids though.

Next to South Bank there's the museum (free) and along with that the science centre (small admission). The science centre is aimed at kids and could take an hour or two at most to go through.

We have little kids (2.5 and 5) and we love Dreamworld & Whitewater World. We find there's lots of things that they can do there. Particularly hard for the 5 year olds because they are big enough to want to go on the bigger rides so they need the in between stuff.

There's Underwater World on the Sunshine Coast. Also things like a Ginger factory, Honey factory, a hedge maze, and a few others smaller attractions.

I would second that or North Stradbroke (Cylinder beach is good for body boarding for children) or Bribie Island if you don't want a boat trip.

It's much smaller, of course, but we still manage to spend an entire day there and have been back a number of times - the Roo enclosure is brilliant, they're so docile and lovely! Haven't been to Lone Pine but we have been to Australia Zoo and to be honest I wasn't that impressed - it's very commercialised, understandably.

For smaller half-day fillers I'd recommend visiting Roma Street Parklands, cruising the city on the CityCat, fish'n'chips at Manly, chill out at Wellington Point, splash-about (for free) at Settlement Cove @ Redcliffe.

There are loads of lovely little places dotted around which cater for kids - you don't have to fill your reccie with expensive theme-park style days out - although I would highly recommend Sea World over Underwater World - they were both very good but the aquariums at Sea World were bloody amazing. Our little one was transifxed. Although Underwater World would give you an excuse to head north and there are some lovely beaches there. Mooloolaba is lovely.

To save some of your hard earned cash I can recommend a day at Mooloolaba beach. theres a lovely park, nice bbqs and of course a patrolled beach. There are nice coffee shops, a lovely walk over to the spit if you feel energetic (flat walk suitable for children)

If you are lucky we may all even be up there having a BE BBQ meet!

I always found when travelling to Australia from the UK, that I was knackered the first couple of days and then didnt want to go full pelt everyday. Try take some time just to be......

There's always Southbank and the Streets beach which the kids would love, at the weekend there's a nice market (lots of arty/crafty stuff and jewellery) and a fantastic guitar player (Elias plays very Spanish music, fantastic) most weekends and there's very often "special events" going on too so really nice for a sunday afternoon walk around

Hi ChickChock

One place that I love is Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Currumbin 1/2 hr drive from Surfers / Broadbeach. A great place for Adults or Children. We have been 3 times.

Have fun!
