Default any ideas what this is?

My son found this in the sea of Moreton Bay, it was about 8 inches long and was on the sea bed.any ideas what this is?-p8220062.jpg

It looks like one that we found on a beach in Melbourne. I asked an Ozzie woman on the beach what it was and she said it was a type of jellyfish and is completely harmless. She told us that as kids her friends and her used to turn them inside out and then she picked it up and threw it in the sea. Err, cheers luv!
