Default Any comments from Retirees on 410 living in Perth

I would appreciate any feedback/comments from Retirees over on a 410 Visa.

Have you settled o.k. Is it all you expected and has you quality of life taken a turn for the better/worse?

Have you found the cost of medical care/prescriptions more than you anticipated?

We are contemplating emigrating to Perth early next year and would love to hear from some 'oldies' about their experiences.

Hi Jeanie

Have no experience in being there, but my Mum and Dad are hoping to come out too once we have settled. They are both in their early 70's but very active, Mum goes to bingo and socialises frequently my Dad still works full time, they are not actually "oldies" but are concerned that they will feel left out once we get there, Im sure there must be social clubs etc to join and I keep telling them they cant be the only ones going out therethat have only us to look after them m, Ive been reading about the older generation out there, and seen a couple of programmes on it on Sky, they seem to be more concerned with the older generation, I just dont want my parents to be left here and to be a burden so to speak I feel their later life will be healthier and much more enjoyable, not to say there are any yobs out there, but hopefully they will be given a little more respect than what old people are shown here!! !

Have found out that there are bingo halls and expats clubs to go to. We have been looking around Mandurah area, as that seems by the sea and not too built up, property doesnt seen really igh there either (not as much as Perth etc) but not too far away if we settle in Perth.

How do you feel about it all? do you have family out there? (Sorry to be so nosey!!!)

Regards
Kath

Hello Jeannie,
Cant help you yet but my parents are coming with us in Feb on a 410 visa so I'll get them to post an 'oldies' outlook when we get there ( though they're not very old, only 50's but that was the best option for them)
Good luck,

Michaela

Default Retirees going out on a 410

Thanks Kath, Graham, and Michaela for your response.

Yes, we do have children out there in Perth. Our eldest son, who lives in Karrinyup has been there for 12 years and they have two children. Our youngest son, who is renting in Innaloo went out in October with his partner and is settling in very well.

We shall be staying with our eldest son while we look around the suburbs. Initially, we will rent. Of course we don't want to move too far away from them, nor do we want to be too far away from the City Centre. We are used to living near a large city - Manchester - and would miss the accessibility to Theatres, Concert Halls, Department Stores, etc.

We are both retired (both over 65 now) Peter was a Design Engineer in air conditioning and I was an Office Manager with the Probation Service.

I think our main concern is really the fact that we have to take out private health care, which, it seems will not completely cover the cost of private prescription medicines, as Peter had a triple heart bypass 9 years ago and has to take statins and other medication.
