Any Childminders/Babysitters for when we arrive in Perth?

We have so much to sort out when we arrive (Bank accounts/Doctor's appointments/house viewings) that it would great if we could leave our 15 month old with a reliable childminder for a couple of hours each day at our apartment. Do you know how we might find someone reputable? The apartment complex offers babysitting but I guess those people wouldn't actually be qualified in childcare would they?

Have you tried asking them?

Cheers.

hiya guys

I think you're best bet would be to contact your local council in the suburb you are in. They usually have family daycare lists (like registered childminders in UK)...but they are usually oversubscribed so they might not be much help. The other thing to do would be to contact some of the private daycare centres, there are plenty of them around, although they are privately owned, once you're registered with centrelink you usually get a subsidised rate at the centre. Again these can be hard to get into but worth contacting them to ask if they have a part time place available.

I know that our daycare centre is sometimes chocka block but then we are near Garden Island and it fills up quickly with naval families kids when they are based there but other times its really quiet in there and easy to get ad-hoc places.

hope this helps a bit!

Hi :)
My partner is a registered nurse with 15 years experience minding children of all shapes and sizes and managing a creche. Send me a mail if you would like further information. We live in western suburbs of Perth.

Best wishes and good luck with the trip.

Hi..

We arrived in Perth 7 weeks ago and were faced with the same problem as we have two kids under 4 years old. We managed to get them into an Occasional Day Care Centre which is great as there a number of places kept aside and they can only be booked 3 weeks in advance, the minimum time you have to pay for is an hour and after that you can book in increments of 30 mins.

Where abouts will you be based?

Paul
