I'm aware that both the tinny and trailer need rego, and that over a certain engine size you need a license, anything else we should be aware of?

It needs to be big enough to take your fridge if you have to evacuate in case of floods or cyclones.

Is the insurance expensive, in comparison to a car? And do the likes of RACQ do it?

That's OK then.....probably depends on the size of the boat and engine

I had a 5m Quintrex with a 90HP Etec and the insurance was $500 for the year.... but the value was $34K

I think from memory in QLD anything over 6HP motor and you need a licence.

It's about 4 metres long and at the moment has a 15 hp engine, but we hope to replace that with a much lower hp electric engine, as anything over 6hp we believe requires you to get a license, can you confirm that?

Why not just go for the licence.. The test isn't that difficult, not that expensive and you learn some good sea faring safety advice.

We will eventually, but in the interim! Up here in Toowoomba we only really have the dams to fish and have very patiently been waiting since we moved here a year ago, to get a tinny! A mate is selling us hers, hopefully!

But you live in Toowoomba!

Or have you just heard an advanced warning from the weather gods (AKA Polly)?

Yeah 6HP or something the similar to a food blender, in NSW it could be any size as long as its not over 10 Knots.

Best of getting the licence.
