will my uk answerphone work in oz.?
i imagine you're not allowed non oz stuff on oz lines,but can i buy an adapter phone plug? cheers ssd |

Unless it is a UK BT phone, you stand a good chance of it working just by replacing the phone cable with one bought from Tandy over here. The phones in Oz use pin 3&4 (the middle pins). In the UK, they use pin 2&5 (and one other pin I forget for the bell).
Anyway, most phone manufacturers distribute to more than one country, and don’t want them to be country specific. It is likely that the cable you have with your current answer machine have a special UK cable that reroutes pins 2&5 from your socket to pins 3&4 at the phone/answer machine. Replacing this cable with a straight through cable should let it work. Connecting a UK phone to the Oz phone network is obviously illegal, and I do not condone this sort of behaviour in any way. |
