Another flying with a baby question... stopover in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur?
We need to validate our visas by October so can only get 2 weeks off to get there and back. We will have our baby with us who will be 18 months old.
First issue is we want to stop over to break up the flights. Has anyone stopped over in Dubai or Kuala Lumpur? If so, is there an airport hotel and where would you recommend? We like Malaysia Air and KL airport but Dubai is the only direct from Glasgow flight but we've never been...
Also, we have been told it is illegal to use a UK car seat in Oz so we won't bother taking it now. What do we do when we get to Oz? Do we have to buy a car seat in the airport before getting a taxi to our hotel? Argh...
I know some of you will have already dealt with these issues so I would really appreciate your advice since I am stressing now... :curse:

The Pan Pacific Hotel at Kuala Lumpar airport is absolutely superb. We always try to break our flights there. It's incredibly good value for money for such a luxurious hotel, has lovely rooms and a very nice pool/spa area too along with several restaurants. That said we always order up room service.
Make sure you get on one of the courtesy electric buggies when you come through arrivals. We got a ride to the hotel and the driver said that he rarely takes British guests because they all think there's a charge and instead push their trollies along the atriums and corridors to the hotel. Last time we went through KL we were on the buggy and we passed this knackered looking English family and the knackered looking mum gives her knackered looking husband this look and says, "I told you it was free!"
So yea - KL every time.
Oh and most car rental companies offer children's seats as an option.

We flew emirates via dubai last August with our 3 children, youngest 15 months. We took our uk car seat to use during the flight and then transfered it to our hire car. It really helped on the flight so she could fall asleep easier and after seeing the car seats in oz we were glad we took ours. Just check with airline for size of the seats to make sure it fits.

where are you flying to in Oz?
In Vic, you can use a taxi without a carseat....no real logic to this.
In NSW, at the airport, they summon a special taxi for you- a disabled one which has a babyseat in the boot and quickly install it for you.
No idea about the other states though.
If you hire a car, you can hire a car seat.
We flew through KL and Malaysian airlines were good, and KL is child friendly. The only downside is that the airport is about 70kms from the city- about a 10quid taxi ride, or you can stay at the airport.
Don't know about Dubai I'm afraid.

Emirates were great for us. We flew from Newcastle and all emirates staff were really helpful from checkin thru to Perth. Free buggies at Dubai airport. Have flown with BA and Quantas in the past and Emirates was far better for service.
