Ambulance cover
I've just learnt that all states except QLD & Tasmania charge for ambulance services. I believe you can add this as an optional extra to private health care policies, but if you don't have private health cover you should pay the state ambulance cover for peace of mind.
Here's a link to the Victoria ambulance membership scheme : Membership – Ambulance Victoria |
Re: Ambulance cover
Does this also mean if you are travelling from Queensland to NSW, Vic with no private health care cover that you should take out a separate travel insurance?

Re: Ambulance cover
Yes definitely check the fine print.
With Bupa in Victoria we have ambulance cover, but its somewhat limited, to one emergency ! but in qld we were told if we moved to victoria it would be two journeys. Anyway I got the feeling it left them wriggle room :sneaky: and took the ambulance cover. |

No. My daughter used to work in NSW and had to have an ambulance take her to hospital. In time she received a bill which she just had to pass on to QLD Ambulance Service, showing proof of residence in QLD and they pay NSW pay the bill.

Thanks for that info as have asked around and nobody seems to know if you cross the border for weeks/days or even hours and need an ambulance just who is responsible for the bill. It is good to know that the bill comes back to Qld. Ambulance Service as we do pay for this service indirectly every year.
