ambulance cover

I am always told 'get it through St johns ambulance' I have checked on thier website today and it appears to suggest that they DONT offer cover themselves in the metropolitan area. Can anyone confirm exactly if this is the case Im very confused. this is from their website:

Metropolitan Ambulance Cover
In the metropolitan area St John Ambulance has not operated the Ambulance Cover since 1997.
HBF owns and operates the HBF St John Ambulance Cover.
Please check with your health insurer to see what level of ambulance cover you hold.

So, whats the best option for cover if you dont have medical insurance?

Re: ambulance cover

just pop into hbf in rocko city (by the post office) I did our family ambo cover from there and they give you the rebate so only cost about $65 ( I think) every year I just a reminder from them and pay it in the post office.
