Ambulance care
Not sure if this is still the case. But years ago it was advised to have ambulance cover incase you had to go to hospital by ambulance. Medicare is not like the NHS ie every thing covered. Because the ambulance cover is usually private. So that means if you go to hospital by ambulance and need oxygen or anything. YOU will be charged. Can someone please advise me if this is still the case? Will/do i have to get seperate cover? I know its not much. Maybe about $40 a year if i remember. Any advice? Cheers!

Re: Ambulance care
Not sure about this as not yet been to Australia, but I have been watching Medical Emergency on TV, set in Melbourne and all of the ambulances have a telephone number on the side to ring for "ambulance membership".

$100 per year for a family. Will have to pay otherwise if you need it and can be a fortune.

Re: Ambulance care
Anyone got any links to a decent ambulance cover provider? We don't pay it in the leckie bill here in South Australia

Re: Ambulance care
In Vic, you need to ensure you have ambo cover.
My private healthfund includes cover for Ambulance Victoria (no gap) otherwise it is $120 for a couple.
A mate of mine was knocked off his bike- bill was nearly $500 to be taken to hospital!

We have cover. If we didn't the 6Km ambulance ride for my sick daughter would have cost us $560.00

Re: Ambulance care
You can also get stung for helicopter ambulance costs.
A mate got bitten by a snake a couple of months back and was flown to Adelaide. He got a bill for $4,500 for the ~70km flight !
Someone working for Australian Conservation Volunteers was planting trees on my farm yesterday and got bitten by an insect - he reacted badly and needed to be helicoptered to Adelaide. He had insurance through the organisation so will not have to pay.

Re: Ambulance care
OK finally found the details if no-one's already given you them. For Victoria:
Metropolitan Ambulance Service tel: 1300366141 www.ambulance.vic.gov.au
Fixed term memberships options: 5 years - $600; 3 years - $360; 1 year - $120
Not sure how this applies elsewhere in Australia, may be worth checking out the website.
