Default Allergy and Epipens

Is there anyone in Oz with allergies requiring the use of an epipen? If so can you tell me if these are prescribed by your GP or equivalent over there or do you have to be assigned to an allergy specialist? Are they even called Epipens over there? Do Medicare cover some of the cost of these?

Thanks, any info gratefully received.

Hi I have an epi pen prescribed by my GP ( my GP visit was part refunded by medi care) my trip to see the allergy specialist was part covered by my health ins) - took script into pharmacy for my epi pen all very straightforward think it was about $50 - I also asked the GP for a letter for when I fly in case of any problems going thro security with an epi pen which of course you have to have with you at all times

Thanks lyndz, very helpful info, eases my mind that it seems straightforward, plus I hadn't thought about a letter re: flying, will get onto that.

You don't actually even need a Drs script.

I believe about $100 OTC
