Good luck in finding a company, there seems to be a few threads on here when employers are willing to sponsor trades.
Thanks

Hi,
I hope one of you guys can help answer my question. We are in the lucky position of already having our PR visas based on my husbands Engineering trade. However, my husband would very much like to have a crack at plan B if he can't get an engineering job as he would go stir crazy not working for any period of time.

He has had quite a lot of tiling/plumbing experience as he has been doing w/end work for a local chap that renovates houses and also we have in the past 15 years rennovated 7 houses each needing bathrooms and kitchens installing and he has done all the work himself. He has also been on a tiling course in the UK.

There's been a lot of talk on this thread about being certificated. My question is this, is it likely that he would be offered work within a company for this type of work? (he has all the tools needed). Secondly if he did get work but later wanted to go out on his own how easy would he find it to get certificated? e.g will he have to work for several years for someone else?
Lastly if he did a course in Australia will that entitle him to certification or does he have to then go and work for someone else for a period of time?

Sorry this is so long but I guess I needed to explain his individual circumstance.

Many thanks

Debbie

Re: For all Builders and Trades-

You can get Blue card by going to a course of an evening it costs $85.00 in Brisbane and takes about 3/4 hours this is just for the standard health and safety card then you can work on site(labouring $17.50 per hour) until you get your license.

Standard blue card for any person who works on building site all trades uk version cscs card will not let you on site without one.

Re: For all Builders and Trades-

blue card is Health and safety, even cleaners require them. As for qualifications the more paperwork(certs, etc) you have or can get ,bring them with you. them what you do is get your trade or trades recogized by australian bodies. Once recognized then apply for license which you will then get. No problem-you are now self employed. E.
