Airport transfer!
While work is a tad quiet this week,im just thinking of obstacales that we shall be jumping!
Well getting to Heathrow is covered, mat ehas a 4x4 that will squeeze out 7 or 8 suitcases in!
Well a standard size holiday car rental aint gonna work to our holiday let!
And we will be around 40kms away!
So hire a big 4x4 for our 21 days stay @ around $1600 or get taxi or the like from airport and hire a car locally?
Again any info on this and how you guys got over it would be sweet

Re: Airport transfer!
Dilema indeed. For my money I would look at a taxi option and hiring a family size car local to where you are staying. Not sure how far you are going as to what the cost might be. We went to Mornington and had a taxi which I think cost about £60 each way which I thought was pretty cheap. The first thing I would do is surf the net to get some names of taxi companies and email them for quotes, so at least you can weigh up costs. With that many suitcases though, I'm not sure you would get it all in one car anyway though. Just thinking on the hoof, would leaving some cases at left luggage for the night and going back the next day be an option?
Another thing to think about is what time of day are you arriving? If it's rush hour or 3am are you going to want to negotiate driving on roads you may be unfamiliar with. We got in a bit of a mess with the toll roads when crossing the city because we went the wrong way (it was 1am, so we can kind of be excused!) and ended up going on both toll roads. We went to the post office to pay the fee the next day so it wasn't too bad, but still a pain. I had thought that the car hire place would have given more help on toll roads but they just said that it was an easy ride and would be no problem. Cheers then. It's just one of those things that when you're a native are a breeze but for a new recruit can be a bit confusing.

There's mini-bus taxis which will fit you all in, and your luggage, no problem. There should be at least one waiting at the airport when you arrive, otherwise you can call one of the main taxi firms and they'll pick you up pretty quick.
Last thing you want to be doing is negotiating Melbourne's unfamiliar roads after a long flight, so I'd get a taxi, they're not that expensive.
In case you're wondering, the toll roads are signposted with blue & yellow signs, and you have to pre-register to use them otherwise you get fined. It's easy enough to avoid them when you know the alternative routes.

I'd agree and go for the taxi. When we came over last year we had all the cases, 2 kids, pushchair etc. so took the minibus taxi from Mel airport to Aspendale. It came in at about $150. For an idea of what a taxi will cost in Victoria, go to: http://www.taxi.vic.gov.au/DOI/Inter...5?OpenDocument

There is a Airport To Frankston airport bus which some friends used.
For about $50 it was 2 adults and 2 8 year old boys with a large suitcase each and carryon luggage.

The airport bus does run at some funny times though - I looked at it from Mornington but didn't fit in with our flight times.
Also if you hire a car at Mellie airport they charge you extra. There is a bit on Melbourne Airport website which gives a taxi calculator which might help you.
Depends on your flight times really as to best course of action.

Or there's a crew called Connexions (spelling may be wrong) who do Brissie airport to GC 24/7. They use a minibus with trailer as well as other vehicles. No idea on cost though.

Another company is Coachtrans about the same price.
Gold Coast cabs will set you back about $200 if you have four people probably worth while than paying $44 each and having a million drop offs on the way.
