Default Airlines Who Give Most Baggage Allowance???

Hi all,
Could anyone help us with this one?
We have priced up 2 boxes to be sent air freight which means they will get there very soon, but this came up at about £250.00, we know that to pay excess baggage will be alot more expensive than this and was wondering if you knew of airlines that give more than usual 20kg.
Thank in advance

Hello

You should get a good response on this - although there have been various recent, and not so recent, threads on it - put up a search and have a look-see.

The main openings appear to be - go via the US and get a much bigger allowance anyway or maybe via Singapore with SA - but you will need to get it agreed (in writing?) beforehand that they recognise you are emigrating.

Some of the other main carriers through SE Asia appear notorious in not giving you a larger allowance even though you have a visa for emigration and a one way ticket.

Regards

Jim

Is that economy class? Did you tell them that you were emigrating? How long is the stopover in Singapore? Just a couple of questions

Thanks

Hi fairgoes,

Yes it is economy class and yes we told them we had our PR visa. We are stopping in singapore for 4 days but leaving most of our luggage at the airport
with a secure baggage operator. We also got a letter to confirm the 40kg's.

cheers mark & maria

P.S If you book your hotel with singapore airways you get free transfers and free entrances to lots of attractions.

Now that Air Canada fly direct from Vancouver to Sydney, that may be a better option than going via the US.

Singapore airlines give 40kgs allowance for new permanent residency visa holders. See this email:

Dear Mr Clarke

Thank you for your email regarding migrant baggage allowance. Passengers
emigrating to Australia in Economy Class are entitled to double baggage
allowance if holding the correct visa.

The visa must be an unused migrant visa that states to remain in Australia
indefinitely. If you are holding this visa you will be entitled to 40kgs
baggage allowance on showing the visa at check in.

If you are not holding the correct visa then we will only be able to waive
5kgs to bring the total baggage allowance to 25kgs. This again will be upon
check in.

All passengers are entitled to 1 main piece of hand luggage at 7kgs.

We do not offer discounted fares for migrant travellers.

If you are travelling with an infant that is not occupying a seat, then
please make a booking for the people who are, then contact our Reservations
Department on 0870 6088886 to add and pay for the infant. The infant ticket
is 10% of the adult fare. If you wish for the child to occupy a seat then
you will need to pay a child fare. When making the booking online for an
infant travelling as a child, when adding the date of birth amend it to be
over the age of 2 years and then call our Reservations Department to change
it back.

Yours Sincerely

Kelly
