E-tickets are great, I've never had any probelem with them.
One big advantage is that you can't lose them (with many paperticket flights you have to repay the flight if you lose the ticket). You check in with passport & reference number only. Even if you lose the email they'll look up your reservation in the system.

It's just a matter of time before they chip babies at birth and people never need any passports, tickets, bankcards etc. at all anymore, everything will be chipped. Just swipe your arm at airports and supermarkets...
And than you can have a really cool "Intel inside" tattoo!
Sorry I got carried away.

I've done that , with no problems. I normally took the email print out though.

I "sort of" like the "Intel Inside" idea

It's a bit scary though if you wouldn't have a passport. Where are the Australian authorities going to put the orange yellow sticker...
Or will you get an email saying the visa has been added to your profile and you may now enter Australia and swipe your left foot...
(always exiting if you have loads of Intel inside)

I'm sure they'll be flexible and use a different body part for him.
He might get a government tattoo on his stump referring to the alternative position of that chip.

I know a pittbull with four legs and one arm!

(A very lucky one I'd say)
