Which airline did you use to emigrate?

Any comments good or bad about a specific airline?

On making a few enquiries myself, Emirates did say that they would allow 40Kgs of luggage, as would Cathy Pacific. You do not to check with them first at the time of booking.

Qantus, BA and Singapore all said 20Kgs, no extra.

Air Maurtiou(sp) said 30KG and 2 nights free stop over, upgrade to premium economy providing we tell them at time of booking.

There are a good number of BE members who got the extra baggage allowance with Singapore Airlines. You would need to contact them first though and not have validated your visa before.

I flew with Singapore Airlines and found them fantastic. Their inflight system is great and the hostesses cant do enough for you.

I came to OZ after 5 years in Christchurch

When I emigrated to Christchurch I travelled with Air New Zealand
2 bags with a maximum weight of 32kg each
so.. 64Kg per person plus cabin baggage .... 70Kg max..

I was travelling with my wife to be.. we had 5 bags at 110kg total..
we didn't have to pay any excess.. but the letter of the law says that we should have paid about 50 quid for the extra bag

the piece system is still in place after a fashion.. you now get 2 bags at 23Kg each.. 46kg total.. you just have to travel via the good old US of A

just looked at the new charges.. its 150 quid per extra bag.. sheesh

Agree about Singapore, done 6 flights so far, 4 with young child and no complaints whatsoever.

And Mairead is right, the hostesses can't do enough for you.

We were told that emirates would only allow you 40kg if you were on a direct flight they will only allow 20kg if you have any stop offs. We went with them in June this year and we could'nt falt them.

Hi there
We used Emirates (Manchester - Dubai - Singapore - Brisbane) when we validated our visas last May. They were absolutly fantastic, infact the best airline we have ever used. We also learnt that they fill up the plane from the front so we were advised by one of the staff to ask for a seat at the back. We were fortunate to get seats to ourselves (four each so we were able to spread out and have a sleep, but this was only because the plane had about 100 spare seats).
The only downside is that we asked them about the extra baggage allowance and were informed that because we had already been to validate, we would not be allowed the extra when we do eventually go. I do not know if this has changed since and will still make some more enquiries when we book our flights.

We flew Singapore. Would recommend them. They were very good. We too got 40KG (4 weeks ago). Flights have to be one way on an unactivated visa.

We booked Emirates from Heathrow to Dubai to Perth for 19th April through a website called movingplanet.net. They had a special offer on for one way flights and we get 50kg each, but we had to fax a copy of our passports over after we had booked the flights to prove we had a valid visa and it hadn't already been validated.

You do need a password for the website which we found out about when we had Robinsons around for a quote for shipping and they gave us a free cd with password to access the site, very handy.
