Air Freight Clearance of Wooden Articles in Melbourne
Hi ... i am looking to import few wooden articles from overseas which will weight around 30kg to 50kg in cardboard (i assume) via DHL probably ... i heave searched extensively but couldn't find below answers.
1) Fumigation Certificate is required for Air Freight with this weight ?
2) Will there be import duty on it if it weighs less than 50 kg?
3) GST is applicable and what will be procedure for it ?
4) Do i need to register a company in advance before importing, if i plan to sell it here ?
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

Fumigation only required if sign of woodworm or wood is untreated in any way. They may do it on arrival at your expense.
Import duty will depend on if they are your personal goods, and is based on value not weight.
If this is for trade then yes different rules apply. Your best information will be from gov websites or departments.

Thanks Rammy ... Do you know how much fumigation costs here, as i am unable to find link and does it need to be displayed outside packaging, if done overseas ?

Never had it done. I recall someone saying their container was fumigated and it was $500 or so. Generally the advice was get a certificate for woodworm treatment if any obvious signs but not fumigation in uk as they will most likely do it again in Oz anyway if there are any issues.
really depends what you are importing, from where and why. If it is commercial then different rules apply than for personal possessions.
You will need to do plenty of research on line and by phone I think.

Thanks rammy ... unfortunately there is a body for exporting guidelines but not for importing ... issue is there is no single stop station to go and findout replies to your queries ... the best bet would be 1st shipment i believe.
