can any of you fiendishly clever people tell me if you get a government rebate when fitting aircon in a new house build fitting either reverse or evaporate

Dont think you can get anything. Aircon is a luxury item remember, whereas water saving is just plain vital atm. However, I do believe pensioners can get a rebate if you hold the valid concession cards.

Dont know about rebate but if you hang on for about 8mth i could do a hommer for you lol.

I don't know about OZ but you can in the UK if it's an inverter model.
I think it comes from the energy saving council.

Good question though would like to hear from others!

I fully agree with Chris96. You can get a rebate back for instaling an "inverter" system. Not too sure if it is the VAT you get back!!!!

There're actually talks somewhere (QLD or Au?!) about limiting number of aircon units in new houses in the future. I can't remember where I read it - a local paper or the Courier Mail - just a few weeks ago. I don't think the government can actually pass a law on that but we do live in a nanny state so who knows.
