They also operate a 'lottery' system where you pay, I think, $10 and get if selected pay another $90 (again, can't remember the exact figure) to get the upgrade. We did this on our flight back from Osaka
I'm sure that an upgrade to London would cost more though
Scoot have a similar setup where you bid what you like for an upgrade. On a recent flight to SIN we bid $150 for 2 seats and were successful

I remember they used to do those flights for normal average joe economy seats. It would cost between £400-£500 for a return from UK to Australia. That was only a few years ago so this is very good news indeed. Shame the British government like to shaft passengers with large tax's 😩
