After 5 years in Australia I have finally .........................................
seen my first 'wild' Koala ...
I've seen allsorts since moving into my house, but altho I know the koala's are behind me (hear em now and then doin their thang) ... i've still not seen one.
I've done the Dreamworld pic with one, but as I say never seen one in the 'wild'.
Not your normal spot I must admit but ...

Poor thing was sittin there, stoned off his nut and watching the cars go by ...
NOT the busiest of roads I admit (round the corner from me) but all the same, just sittin there!
One of my neighbours got an old towel and picked it up (yeah it screeched a lil) and moved it to the side of the road ...
Where it continued to just sit there!
Everyone was stopping, pulling out the phone for a pic (me included), and in the end my neighbour picked it up again and placed it in a cardboard box, and then took it to the local vet.
One of the guy's there was on the phone to someone or other (RSPCA maybe) and he was told to take it home and take it to the Daisy Hill Koala Sanctuary tomorrow ...
If i'd of took that fella home then that'd be it, my new pet ... ... but in all seriousness it WAS weird how it was just sittin there in the middle of the road.
Just thought i'd share ...

We live bordering the Koala Sanctuary and have seen numerous Koalas since living here, we even had one in the backyard a few years ago. A mate works there and was involved in the recent survey to see just how many are left up here. 10 years ago there were several hundred and now the numbers are barely into the 30's, very sad indeed.

Probably quite sick I reckon, when I did voluntary work at Currumbin, they said normally if you can get close enough to be allowed to pick it up, it is often very sick. We had a few brought in with Chlamydia which is a problem with Koalas.
At least he will get checked over at the sanctuary.

No one knows how it got there and I just see my neighbour. He said the local vet took it, and was gonna take it to the koala sanctuary.
Apparently it showed no signs of being hit or anything. just a lil too stoned I spose ...
