Africans in Brisbane
This afternoon we were driving between Waterford and Logan.
We passed a stadium where there were several hundred of, what looked like, Somalians.
Any idea what was going on?
I did not realise there was such a large population of Africans in Qld.
A bit further up the road was a huge Sikh temple with a large crowd of Sikhs outside.
It may come as a huge shock, to some, to find out just how multicultural Australia is.

Re: Africans in Brisbane
Just checking on populations it seems they were probably Sudanese.
Just unusual to see such a large crowd at what must have been a sporting event.

Re: Africans in Brisbane
Aus is very multi-cultural, of which many emigrating don't realise.
Over here in Perth there are Muslim Temples too.
I think there are many Somalians here too, very very tall and thin. When we had our ceremony there were 2 Somalian families with us, extremely elegant they were, gorgeous kids.

There's a large Sudanese community in Toowoomba and Annerley/Moorooka. Sixty Minutes ran a story on it a few years ago. If you go and sit in the Mater Chidrens Hospital for any length of time, you'll see heaps of Sudanese families - the kids are so cute.

There are around 21,000 Sudanese now resident in Australia,of whom about 3,000 reside in Perth, which is a similar number to what Brisbane has. This is by far the largest African(black) community in Australia, although 120,000 South Africans are in the country most of these are of European background.
The Indian community is one of the fastest growing in
Perth and a Sikh temple can be found in Cannington
Somalis are a very small community in Wa around 500 only.
WA has traditionally attracted immigrants from Anglo backgrounds,UK,NZ and white South Africa so until recent times the mix of people was no where near as varied as those that went to NSW and Vict but more than SA and slightly more so than QLD.

Re: Africans in Brisbane
The biggestnumber by far come from UK with NZ coming well back in second place.
I would dispute the statement above. The UK has a far greater diversity than Australia and it will not be long before a city in Yorkshire becomes the first in Britain where the white population becomes the minority.
Quite sure that the city in question Leicester .
London,is generally recognized as being with New York as one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world and has been so for many decades.
A figure of at least 40% non white population has been given(can not give exact figure now)Cultures too a far larger degree can be observed on the streets of London,
from the Bangla Deshi community (largest outside Bangla Desh) in the Tower Hamlets area(E1) to Indians at South Hall, West Indians in Brixton,Africans in north and south.Arabs around the Edgware RD Chinese in Soho Muslims in the east end the diversity goes on and on.
A more visible diverse population than Sydney(although more Chinese ethnics in NSW)
France also is very diverse having the biggest Jewish and Islamic communities in Europe along with a large black population from the former colonies..
Some 10% of The Netherlands is said to be non white.
To sum up i would say Australia is cosmopolitan but not in the same league for diversity but is becoming more so.
I have a feeling Australia will be a very different country in say the next twenty population wise.

You seem to forget Australia is about 12-13% Asian now, along with a solid 5% being Aborigine and Pacific Islander.
So what if France has a large Muslim population? Do they have a large Chinese, Vietnamese or Malaysian population? No they dont. Do they have a large Pacific Islander population? No they dont.
According to you its only diverse if its by European standards.
Australia has a huge assortment of other European immigrant groups, German, Polish, Hungarian ect.
France and the UK has very little diversity compared to Australia. Those 2 countries are dominated by a handful of immigrant groups while Australia has huge numbers from across the world.

Sydney is far more diverse than any European city.
You are also racist in lumping all Asians as Chinese, thereby reducing the argument of diversity. You fail miserably, Sydney's Asian population is more diverse than the Islamic population in Europe or the Indian population in Europe.
Mandarin,Cantonese,Hakka,Korean,Thai,Burmese,Malay , Tagalog, Bahasa, Javanese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Laotian, Japanese and a whole heap of others are the languages of Asia in Sydney and indeed Australia. You dont hear them in Europe(not in significant numbers) but to you they are all Chinese. Typical.

I can believe that.
I also believe the muslims/ in Yorkshire are trying to pass through shari law in this area.
