Default advice on Timaru nz

As anyone been to or live in Timaru south island?
may of got a promising job offer but turns out its in south island.Nothing wrong with that but we`ve been looking into north island and hadn`t considered south mainly because of the weather.
As we`ve never been to nz (yet) i don`t think we should put all our eggs in one basket and maybe consider it.
So any advice from someone who`s been there would be great, we are not looking for a busy city or town to live in.
thanks for your thoughts

kerrie,
can't answer really yet but going to nz later today and plan to have a look at timaru as well!! so far only know of one nurse who left here to work in hosp there and absolutley loves it - very outdoor life, low rainfall and temps similar to christchurch.

Only spent one night there, nice beach, nice town, like muppetking said, it was quiet.

weather was nice while we were there, but that was the summer.
Depends what you want, wrong person to comment I suppose.

Good luck!
