Default Advice on skilled working for a year

Hi everyone,

My wife and I would love to go to Aus for 12 month to work then return the the UK. Any advice on the following would be greatly appreciated.

Myself and my wife are both British. She is also a joint Canadian national.

I have a computing degree from a reputable UK university. She has a business administration degree from the top Canadian university. She is also currently studying for a masters in marketing at Manchester uni.

In the UK I work an an IT contractor through my own LTD company. My wife would be looking to work as a Brand Manager for a consumer goods company.

What options do we have to come and work in australia for the year considering our education and background?

Looking at the jobs boards, there are loads of oppertunities in both of our fields, so we want to come and try.

We have enough cash stashed away to last at least 6 months without work.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi.

you are probably after a sponsored business visa (aka 457) that ties you to the sponsoring employer. If you are under 30 then you could try for a working holiday visa. I can't see other short-term visa options really.

Hi newjersey,

thanks for the reply. I was under the impression it was possible to get a 7 year working visa for a skilled professional? Is this the case?

Kind regards

No, it's not. Start by reading over the different booklets here for what's available to you.
