Re: Advice RE study route for entry into OZ

Re: Advice RE study route for entry into OZ
we're oding the student thing as well.... I'm 24, OH is 33.
We had planned to train in the UK. I was due to start my degree last september and OH was planning to do an accountanct qualification... all with a view to emigrating in 4 years (experience not an issue as we were both going to continue working) Then i had second thoughts about the course I was due to start, and OH then discovered that it would be cheaper to train in australia - plus the qualifications would then be aussie ones as well... and in a matter of 3 months we'd sold the housel, packed up the dogs, and we were off and on our way! OH is doing a Bachelor of Commerce (Accountancy), and I'm doing a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts combined degree. just a note of warning - OH was doing a 2 years advanced diploma in accountancy as we had been told (by a visa person) that the advanced dipploma would be ok to use for PR (when combined with all the relevant work experience) and would satisfy the qualifications requirement from the accountancy assessment people. A couple of months after we arrived we disocvered (don't know if the requirements changed or if the person was wrong) that the minimum qualification for OH was the Bachelors degree. This was a bit of a pain as OH already had a BSc in Business and is having to repeat quite a few subjects; AND it's added an additional $20k on to our costs!!! as I posted in another post earlier... OH has been looking for work the last couple of weeks, and has been told not to expect to find a ready supply of office type work which will be 20 hours or less... employers just don't do it. of course there are a few jos out of there, but they normally go to returning to work mums, who just want to a couple of hours here and there and can be quite difficult to fit in around study scehdules. if you're going to reply on working for money whilst over here, then you could find yourself looking at cleaning, McD's, waitressing etc but hey... it's all part of the mystery!!!!! At the end of the day, if we don't get PR then we'll just head off to NZ or somewhere like that (not back to the UK).... having enjoyed at least 4 years in suny QLD... which is better than nothing at all!!! |

Keep your eye open for the changes DIMA have talked about for 1 July 2007 - work experience may be needed for permanent residence after then. |

Re: Advice RE study route for entry into OZ
Hi Goodi
If you are mad then i am insane!! We are going down the same route and for the same reasons - no other way in and a great desire to change our life. (we = myself, husband and four children) I have enrolled on a Certificate III in hospitality - commercial cookery at the Sunshine coast tafe to start in July 07.Its a two year course which will hopefully give me a 60 point occupation. We have raised money from the equity in our house and will rent it out whilst we are away to cover costs. It is going to be a very expensive and it might not work but to us it is definitely worth the risk. Good Luck Dawn |
