Hi my name is Nic i am 39 yrs old and a carpenter from the uk i have 5 yrs experience behind me. I am married with 3 children 17,8,7. I retrained to be a carpenter a little over 5 yrs ago because i wanted to move to Australia to be near my family ( Dad and four sisters) the live in Brisbane Qld. but my problem is i am 40 in July and lose 10 points i plan to do the Ielts test to help my self .
I know i would have to do a skills assesment has anyone done this test if so what was involved and how did you find it ? i get a little nervous with things like this .

i have also been advised by emigration group i have a better chance in going to New Zealand on a work to residency visa. i just feel like someone has thrown a spanner on the works and knocked me of course lol all and any advice pls.I have been to Aus loads of times but never new zealand whats it like.

Only skilled experience counts for points. How many years have you been qualified? If you only started re-training 5 years ago, I doubt you will have any points from experience as they look for 3 or 4 years of training time.

Given that, even with IELTS I don't think you can make the required points for a PR visa. If this is the case, spending money on a skills assessment would be a waste, sorry to say :(

Will your oldest child be still in full time education? The reason being, even if you manage to get a visa, she might not if no longer regarded as dependent.

Hi Nic.

Have you had an assessment of your points and visa strategy prepared?

In case of need: https://www.gmskilled.com/carpenter-...-to-australia/

See also the factsheet, etc here: https://www.vetassess.com.au/skills-...nd-fact-sheets

Best regards.
