Advice needed from midwives/nurses working in Australia
 

Hello :)
Me and my OH have been discussing our options for when we've finished our family.. Moving to Australia has always been number one on the list for us so we're planning on working towards that.
I was planning on training to be a midwife once we'd had another baby, but through doing some research on midwifery in Australia, I'm not sure whether it'd be best to do the nursing degree instead and maybe then do the midwifery course afterwards, so I was competent in both nursing and midwifery, or just do direct entry midwifery.
What would you suggest? x

Hi There,
I think the question you need to ask yourself is do you want to be a nurse or a midwife? the two jobs are very different! I did direct entry midwifery and totally loved my training...because all I wanted to do was be a midwife. it's a tough 3 years of training and you really have to want to do it to get through.
Good luck but my advise would be choose the career you want...not what's going to get you a job in Australia
